COVID Reaches Another Vaccine Milestone
Utah has now administered more than 2 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Health officials reported 344 new cases of the virus Friday. The state’s week long average of new cases is now 369 that’s down compared to last Friday. One more person has died from the virus, but officials said it happened at least a month ago.

SALT LAKE CITY â The letter is hitting mailboxes across Utah. Coming from the big city of Los Angeles, a city that never sleeps, I was used to the sounds of everyday commotion and the bustling sounds of people walking down the street, seeing the large skyscraper buildings and being surrounded by entertainment. I grew up in the city known for movies and music, and with the notion of Los Angeles being the entertainment capital of the world.
Pika aya means tortoise in the Shivwits dialect of Southern Paiute.
Southern Paiute land in Washington County could hold some important information about Mojave Desert tortoises. To learn more, researchers are taking a holistic approach to studying this endangered animal.
The project is called Pika’aya Tooveep or “Tortoise Country” in Paiute. Part of the endeavor involves students and wildlife biologists surveying the Shivwits Band of Paiute Indians reservation for signs of tortoises, which isn’t usually allowed.
Ann McLuckie is a biologist with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. She said the land on either side of the reservation is an important recovery area for the tortoises. Surveying the animals on the reservation will help them understand how much movement there is between the two areas.

SALT LAKE CITY â Utah Division of Wildlife Resources investigators are looking for information to help them solve the shooting of a bald eagle in Summit County.
According to DWR, conservation officers were notified about the injured eagle after it was found near the town of Henefer on April 2.
A Utah State Parks ranger and a Utah Highway Patrol located and captured the eagle near the Weber River, west of I-84.
