Goal: List the monarch butterfly as an endangered species.
The monarch butterfly is on the verge of extinction, yet the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has them on a waiting list to be considered for endangered status. In recent years, the western population has suffered a decline of 99%. On Tuesday, the Center for Biological Diversity filed a lawsuit against outgoing Interior Secretary David Bernhardt, as well as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, for delaying the protection of monarchs and 10 other endangered species.
The western monarch butterfly is an incredibly unique species that plays an important role in ecosystems spanning from Canada to Mexico. For years, conservationists have been fighting to protect them. While their listing has been continuously put off, their numbers decline at alarming rates. Sign the petition below to demand federal protection for the monarch butterfly before it’s too late.

BILLINGS, Mont. In the closing months of the Trump administration, energy companies stockpiled enough drilling permits for western public lands to keep pumping oil for years and undercut President-elect Joe Biden’s plans to curb new drilling because of climate change, according to public records and industry analysts.
An Associated Press analysis of government data shows the permit stockpiling has centred on oil-rich federal lands in New Mexico and Wyoming. It accelerated during the fall as Biden was cementing his lead over President Donald Trump and peaked in December, aided by speedier permitting approvals since Trump took office.
In the final stretch of his presidency, Donald Trump and his administration are working furiously to sell off our public lands and waters, wreaking havoc on the climate and communities across the country. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Tongass National Forest, and thousands of acres of wildlands have all been put on the auction block for the highest bidder to dig, drill, and mine, which would extensively damage the environment and displace countless Indigenous communities. Demand that Trump and Interior Secretary David Bernhardt immediately halt these desperate, reckless attacks on our planet.
