The family of a cancer patient at Emory University Hospital cannot see him in person due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic, but decided to bring him and other patients a special Christmas message.
ATLANTA - Many hospital patients had to be alone on Christmas Day with most hospitals under quarantine due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic.
That is where one Atlanta area family stepped up in a huge way. They wanted to make sure their father, who is battling cancer, and other hospital patients had something to smile about.

ATLANTA – Emory Healthcare administered the first COVID-19 vaccinations to its frontline health care workers today, beginning with an emergency room nurse, providing hope as the pandemic continues to surge across Georgia and the U.S.
Nicole Baker, MSN, RN, an emergency department nurse manager and frontline emergency room nurse at Emory University Hospital, was the first employee to receive the Pfizer vaccination at Emory, following the vaccine’s arrival this morning. Christy Norman, PharmD, vice president of Emory Healthcare Pharmacy Services, administered the vaccination.

With the first shipments of COVID-19 vaccine arriving in Georgia this week, Emory hosted the first of many virtual town halls on the topic Dec. 17.
At this early stage, uncertainties remain about vaccine availability in both the short and long term, but the virtual town hall sought to inform Emory faculty, staff and students about what is known about the safety and efficacy of these vaccines and to begin to answer questions.
Based on CDC guidelines, the initial phase of vaccine rollout will prioritize high-risk health care workers and residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities. It is important that people get the vaccine, as at least 60% of the population needs to be vaccinated in order to control the spread of COVID-19.
