Updated / Tuesday, 22 Dec 2020 14:00 Restaurants Association of Ireland says thousands of euro of stock will be wasted due to the new Covid-19 restrictions The Restaurants Association of Ireland said today s news of new Covid-19 restrictions come as a disastrous, devastating and crushing blow to restaurant owners and their staff ahead of Christmas.  It said the short notice given by the Government will mean thousands of euros of stock in each business will be lost in wastage.  The association has called on the Government to provide a financial aid package for the restaurant sector, which it said has being economically flattened over the past nine months.

Share this article A restaurants group says gardaí should have taken a zero tolerance approach towards restaurants and pubs in breach of COVID-19 guidelines. Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI) CEO Adrian Cummins says any businesses not following the rules should be closed with immediate effect . It comes as restaurants and pubs Gardaí yesterday said they d issued the first closure order on a licensed premises in the north-west of the country, in a business where no substantial meals were being served. However, the force said it also detected breaches at a number of other businesses around the country. On today s Pat Kenny Show, Mr Cummins expressed frustration that more businesses weren t closed down in recent weeks.

Mr Martin said the move was in response to the extraordinary increase in Covid-19 cases, with a 10% daily growth rate that is simply not sustainable . Speaking at Government Buildings, he said that while there is no evidence yet the more virulent strain of the coronavirus is here, the safest and most responsible thing to do is to proceed on the assumption that it is already here .
