Restaurant and hotel owners in Mumbai are disappointed over restrictions imposed on them by authorities during the holiday season.
“I can’t even tell you the kind of losses that we would be facing simply because we have received zero bookings in 2020 for Christmas and New Year. In a way for our industry the Christmas festival and New Year s eve are a completely lost opportunity,” says Gurbaxish Kohli, Vice-President of Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India.
On December 18 the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India had written to the state government requesting relaxation in operating hours for two additional hours. The state is yet to respond to the request.

The new guidelines by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India state that restaurants will have to mention the calorific values on menu cards, boards or booklets.
Food aggregators like Zomato or Swiggy too have to comply with these new rules.
However, restaurant owners feel that this move is “uncalled for,” especially since it comes at a time when they are already struggling to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
