West Lafayette awards remaining CDBG CARES Act funding

Listen to this article WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The City of West Lafayette is pleased to announce that three public service agencies have been awarded over $280,000 in CDBG CARES Act funding. The organizations prepared proposals during the spring 2021 CDBG Advisory Board meetings. The board and the organizations identified needs within the community due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Food Finders Food Bank will provide funding for the BackPack program for students at West Lafayette schools, which provides 6-8 pounds of nutritious, child-friendly foods every Friday throughout the school year to keep children and their families fed over the weekend. Food Finders Food Bank will also use the funding to establish a food box program for residents in Country Villa Apartments who meet income requirements and have limited access to transportation.

They were given the challenge to collect at least 1,000 boxes of cereal in a week. The students ended up surpassing that goal by 275 additional boxes.

Purdue colleges donate nearly $44,000 for local food bank

Purdue University’s College of Agriculture food drive recently raised $43,947.56 for Food Finders Food Bank Inc. According to metrics provided by Food Finders, this amount translates to 133,900 meals that will feed families in North Central Indiana. The College of Agriculture was joined in the drive by nine other major academic units: Purdue Libraries; the colleges of Education, Engineering, Health and Human Sciences, Liberal Arts, Pharmacy and Science; the Honors College; and Purdue Polytechnic Institute.
