Son of Albanian crime boss arrested by gardai probing Europe-wide people smuggling network

THE son of an Albanian crime boss has been arrested by gardai probing a Europe-wide people smuggling network.
We can reveal the suspect was lifted by the Garda National Immigration Bureau after he was suspected of charging €1,500 for fake travel documents.

The documents - mainly bogus Romanian ID cards - were used by people in Ireland to travel to the UK.
The gang leader s son - one of three men lifted by investigators during five searches in Dublin and one in Co Wicklow - is suspected of acting as a facilitator for the mob in Albania.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar met gardaí voluntarily earlier this month in relation to an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disclosure of a confidential Government document to a friend two years ago.
A spokesperson for Mr Varadkar said he made a full statement and answered all questions when he met gardaí by appointment. On advice the Tánaiste cannot say anything further until the investigation is complete, the spokesperson said.

Mary Lou McDonald called the leak of a doctors’ pay agreement by the then-Taoiseach to his friend “an abuse of power” and said “politically this can’t be tolerated”.
The Tanaiste has admitted that in April 2019, while he was Taoiseach, he sent a copy of a doctors’ pay deal between the State and the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) to his friend, Dr Maitiu O Tuathail.
Dr O Tuathail was head of the rival organisation, the National Association of General Practitioners (NAGP), at the time.
