Pangilinan seeks probe on slow Bayanihan 2 fund utilization By ERWIN COLCOL, GMA News
Published February 11, 2021 6:44pm Senator Francis Pangilinan is calling for a Senate investigation into the slow distribution and utilization of funds under the Bayanihan to Recover As One Act (Bayanihan 2). Pangilinan has filed Senate Resolution 647 which directs the appropriate committee in the Senate to conduct an inquiry, in aid of legislation, into the release and utilization of Bayanihan 2 funds to address gaps in the government s COVID-19 response. He cited a report of the Office of the President submitted to the Senate on January 4, which states that only P103.24 billion of the P140 billion funds under Bayanihan 2 have so far been released.

The House Committee on Appropriations approved Friday a bill extending the validity of funds under the P165.5-billion Bayanihan to Recover as One Act or Bayanihan 2.
Getting the panel’s nod during a virtual hearing was a currently unnumbered substitute bill which consolidated House Bill (HB) Nos.7957, 7979, 8014, 8063, and 8099.

Appropriations committee vice chairman Davao de Oro Rep. Ruwel Peter Gonzaga presided over the hearing in lieu of chairman ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap.
The substitute bill seeks to extend the validity of Bayanihan 2 appropriations up to June 30, 2021 or roughly six months after its expiration based on the current law.
