Health experts remain wary of Dallas County’s herd immunity as delta variant continues to spread

As coronavirus hospitalizations rise again and variant cases of the disease increase, some area health experts are wary of the announcement that Dallas County has reached herd immunity.
The Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation, which has tracked Dallas County’s coronavirus numbers since the start of the pandemic, announced that the county reached the threshold meaning 80% of the population had antibodies July 4. The center’s estimates accounted for people who are vaccinated, as well as those who have recovered from COVID-19.

North Texas breakthrough COVID infections rise, though Dallas County cases overall hold steady

With some health agencies providing coronavirus case updates less frequently, The Dallas Morning News will begin publishing compilations of statistics weekly, rather than daily. Articles typically will appear online on Mondays and in the newspaper on Tuesdays.
The vast majority of COVID-19 cases in Dallas County are in unvaccinated people, but a small number have been reported among people who have been fully immunized, according to county health data.
