Think tank for ‘economically responsible approach by judiciary’
The NITI Aayog the government s apex thinktank has commissioned a study that seeks to examine the “unintended economic consequences” of judicial decisions that have hindered and stalled big-ticket projects on environmental grounds.
A perusal of the document appears to suggest that judgments that negatively impact major infrastructure projects don t adequately consider the economic fallout in terms of loss of jobs, revenue. Doing so, it reckons, would contribute to public discourse among policymakers for promoting an “economically responsible approach by judiciary” in its decisions.

The RBI had in 2018 permitted voluntary transition of primary coop banks into small finance banks In a move that will help cooperative banks to convert to banks, the Budget has proposed tax exemptions.
It has provided tax neutral benefit for conversion of urban cooperative bank into banking company.
“It is proposed to expand the scope of business reorganisation to include conversion of a primary co-operative bank to a banking company and the deductions available under Section 44DB of the Act shall also be made applicable in relation to such conversion,”said the Memorandum to the Financial Bill.

BJP leader and MP Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the role played by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officials in various banking scams that plague the country’s economy, causing prejudice to public interest.
The petition, filed by Dr. Swamy and advocate Satya Sabharwal, said the alleged involvement of RBI officials in scams involving various entities, including Kingfisher, Bank of Maharashtra, an Uttar Pradesh-based private sugar organisation, Nirav Modi, Rotomac Global, Lakshmi Vilas Bank, IL&FS, PMC Bank, Yes Bank and First Leasing Company of India, had not been investigated.
