UP pollution board to identify pollution hotspots

The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB), along with the traffic department, will now identify pollution hotspots in seven major cities in Uttar Pradesh.The survey will be held in Ghaziabad, Noida, Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi .

Ghaziabad: To deal with the problem of vehicular pollution and traffic congestion, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) intends to encourage the use of e-cycle in Raj Nagar Extension and Indirapuram townships. The development authority plans to execute the project on PPP mode and has invited expression of interest for the same. “We have invited expression of interest cum financial bids for design, procurement, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of electric bicycle schemes on PPP mode in Indirapuram and Raj Nagar Extension,” said a GDA official. He added that so far they have not received a favourable response. “But we are not giving up on the project as we feel that e-bicycle project is very important for Ghaziabad to deal with the problem of pollution and traffic jams in the district,” the official said.

Representative Image NOIDA: The Regional office of Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has taken two builders to the Environment court, Lucknow, for repeated violation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which is in place in NCR since October 15, 2020. The UPPCB said the two builders who have been prosecuted for the violations are Ajnara Ambrosia and L&T group, both are contractors for the Dedicated Freight Corridor. NGT directs UP PCB to determine liability for damage to environment in Kanpur ANI | Updated: Jan 06, 2021 23:01 IST New Delhi [India], January 6 (ANI): The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board to determine the liability for damage to the environment on account of illegal storage of chromium waste in Kanpur. The tribunal observed that the chromium dump in Kanpur Dehat is continuing to cause damage to the environment and public health. An NGT bench headed by its chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel said that the persons responsible for dumping such hazardous waste, which has contaminated the groundwater to the detriment of the inhabitants, cannot disown responsibility for liability for such damage on the ground of inaction of the authorities or closing of the companies.
