Gov. Spencer Cox urged Utahns Thursday to treat each other better after a new state law lifted restrictions intended to slow the spread of COVID-19, but not the mask mandate for K-12 students that sparked a heated protest earlier this week.
“There is no right way to come out of a pandemic,” the governor said during his weekly briefing on the state’s efforts against COVID-19, held virtually from the state Capitol in Salt Lake City. “For those restrictions that still remain in place, again, please show kindness, please show some humanity and some grace.”

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah â Students at Granger High School lined up Tuesday for their COVID-19 vaccination as a part of Granite School District s efforts to give access to the vaccine for students.
âWeâre seeing a fairly good response form our families thus far,â said Ben Horsley, spokesperson for the Granite School District, adding about the spread of the virus on campuses, âthe goal and the hope is we can eliminate it all together.â
Different schools are seeing different levels of participation in the Granite School District, but across the county, the health department is seeing lower levels of vaccine sign ups among students than they thought.
Jill Biden will make her first visit to Utah as first lady Wednesday. She plans to deliver a speech at Glendale Middle School and then stop by a vaccination drive aimed at Hispanic residents.
