Therapist Excommunicated From Mormon Church Over Support for Same-Sex Marriage

A sex therapist has been ousted from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for her public opposition of Mormon doctrines, her support of same-sex marriage and stance on other sexual issues, the Salt Lake Tribune reported, according to the
Associated Press.
Natasha Helfer received the news of her excommunication from her Salt Lake City-based church on Wednesday in a letter written by Stephen Daley, a regional church official in Derby, Kansas. After carefully and prayerfully considering this matter, it was the decision of the council to withdraw your church membership in response to conduct contrary to the law and order of the church, the letter said. It was posted by Helfer on Facebook.
The Utah-based faith is encouraging, but not requiring, its global proselytizing force to be immunized.

As it did with its missionaries in Utah, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is encouraging but not requiring its full-time proselytizers across the globe to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to “safeguard themselves and others.”
The latest appeal came Friday in a message from the faith’s Missionary Department.

SALT LAKE CITY - A sex therapist in Utah who has publicly challenged her faith s policies on sexuality has been kicked out of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints following a disciplinary hearing.
Natasha Helfer received a letter Wednesday from a regional church official explaining the reasons for her removal from the Salt Lake City-based church, The Salt Lake Tribune reported. Helfer was disciplined by church leaders in Kansas, where she lived before moving to Utah in 2019.
âAfter carefully and prayerfully considering this matter,â the letter states, âit was the decision of the council to withdraw your church membership in response to conduct contrary to the law and order of the church.â
The minimalist-footwear company got its wish last September, joining the likes of Eileen Fisher, Patagonia, Toms and other mission-driven businesses that hew to exacting standards of corporate governance, worker engagement, environmental management and transparency to balance profit with purpose.
