20th Century Fox, after Ed Ruscha (from Pictures of Cars) by Vik Muniz on artnet Auctions

In his series Pictures of Cars, Vik Muniz pays homage to Ed Ruscha by re-imagining some of Rusha s iconic artworks, and then photographing the result. Known for his use of unconventional materials, here Muniz has re-created Ruscha’s painting of the 20th Century Fox logo using steel and rusted car metal. By photographing the resulting reconstruction close up, the Brazilian artist creates the illusion of a simple, two-dimensional pastiche. Only close examination reveals the material transformation of Rusha’s original, now with additional texture and depth. 20th Century Fox (After Ed Ruscha) is a testament to the ongoing influence of American pop master Ed Ruscha, and a nod to the cultural clout of Los Angeles, the home of Hollywood. Frame dimensions are approximate.
