Shehbaz hails UK’s help during new corona wave
Says Pakistan and Britain have a long history of bilateral relations and that for Pakistanis, the UK is like a second home

Islamabad: British High Commissioner to Pakistan Dr Christian Turner met Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif at the British High Commission in Islamabad. Former prime minister Shahid Khan Khaqan Abbasi and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Secretary Information Maryam Aurangzeb were also present on the occasion.
Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the British assistance to Pakistan during the new coronavirus pandemic. He extended his condolences to the British high commissioner for the covid-19 deaths in Britain.

ISLAMABAD: While 1,404 more people tested positive for coronavirus and 31 lost their lives over the past 24 hours, the number of active cases in the country has reduced by half in two-and-a-half months.
The number of active cases had surpassed the 50,000 mark in December 2020. It started decreasing the following month and came down to 25,635 (51.27pc) on Sunday.
This is the second time that active cases have been on the decline, as earlier the number of active cases had started dropping during the first wave of Covid-19 after crossing the 50,000 mark in June 2020. The number of active cases kept decreasing the following months and finally reached below 6,000 in September. However, their number began growing again to have reached 11,190 on Oct 27 and 30,362 on Nov 18, following which the government officially announced the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic.

ISLAMABAD: In an interesting move, the British government has announced humanitarian aid for Balochistan to help the province recover from COVID-19.
It is the first province for which the British government has made the announcement for assistance. British High Commissioner Dr Christian Turner CMG Thursday announced £3.5 million UK humanitarian aid for Balochistan during his first visit to Quetta. According to the British high commission, the rates of malnutrition and food insecurity in the province were already high before the COVID-19 global pandemic, but the virus had affected livelihoods and made the problem worse. The United Kingdom aid would help over 41,000 women and children get vital nutrients they need, through a therapeutic food programme. It will support community outreach workers to identify and help malnourished children, pregnant women and new mothers.

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - British High Commissioner Dr Christian Turner called on Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Rawalpindi today.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during the meeting overall regional security situation and matters of mutual interests were discussed.
The British High Commissioner appreciated Pakistan s effort for the Afghan peace process and regional stability.
