PGO submits Tatarov case to SBU, NABU calls this interference in investigation to protect official 2 min read
The Prosecutor General s Office (PGO) submitted the criminal proceedings on the suspicion of Deputy Head of the President s Office of Ukraine Oleh Tatarov to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) considers this to be an interference in the investigation to protect the official. On December 23, 2020, Deputy Prosecutor General Oleksiy Symonenko transferred criminal proceedings on suspicion of the deputy head of the President s Office from the NABU to the Security Service of Ukraine. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) will ask the court to arrest Deputy Head of the President s Office Oleh Tatarov, with the possibility of posting bail, NABU Director Artem Sytnyk has said in an interview with Current Time TV. NABU is initiating [Tatarov s] arrest, with the possibility of posting bail, but I don t know what decision the prosecutor will make, Sytnyk said.
On December 21, Tatarov came to the NABU where he received a suspicion notice. He also wrote a statement on the temporary suspension of his official duties and their transfer to another official.

Zelensky was named politician of the year by 15% of Ukrainians, while last year it was 46%.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is most often considered by Ukrainians as politician of the year, while at the same time topping the ranking of this year s losers.
That s according to a nationwide survey conducted by Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation and Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), whose results were seen by UNIAN.

President Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine will next year start implementing a global judicial reform. We have launched the High Anti-Corruption Court, and sentences have already been handed down – it has been working for over a year already, Zelensky told in an interview with the New York Times, the President s Office wrote in a report delivered in Ukrainian. I believe this is important since the courts are Ukraine s sore spot, and now there is the High Anti-Corruption Court, now we re at war with a few judges of the Constitutional Court who seek to destroy the anti-corruption structure in Ukraine. They won t succeed. We will reformat this all, the head of state added.

It is believed that, similar to other countries with a Soviet heritage, Ukrainians are incapable of creating institutions that are intrinsically not corrupt. However, the work of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has proved that is not the case. The lack of resources has not prevented these two institutions from being effective, successful, and, most importantly, independent. They are two islands of justice in Ukraine and success models that we can implement across the board.
