One year on, a leading psychologist said athletes and coaches were suffering sleepless nights and had trouble making decisions and controlling their emotions as the stress associated with the pandemic lingered. When the Tokyo Olympic Games were postponed last year, High Performance Sport New Zealand performance psychology head and mental skills consultant Dr Kylie Wilson said there was increased demand as athletes dealt the with acute stress associated with the abrupt end to training during lockdown and four years of planning thrown into disarray.

EliteHRV raises $4 5 from investors across the globe, plans deployment of new stealth tech

ASHEVILLE  EliteHRV has brought in $4.5 million in new investments to accelerate the deployment of a new technology the company plans to bring to market, founder and CEO Jason Moore told WRAL TechWire this week. The Asheville company launched in 2017 to help people reach health and performance goals, and uses an app and web platform to provide heart rate variability (HRV) metrics to its users, as well as providing insights to help users understand their personal data. According to the company, their technology has been used to analyze more than 3.5 billion HRV intervals for more than 500,000 users across the globe, and works with more than 100 research partners including Harvard Medical School, High Performance Sport New Zealand, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Sport was initially one of Covid-19’s most visible casualties. The 2020 Olympics were postponed amid cancellation of countless other events. Athletes soldiered on during lockdowns, training alone in makeshift home gyms. But despite the upheaval, sport soon found ways to adapt. Virtual events pitted competitors against each other via Zoom, special team quarantine arrangements were made, and sporting contests resumed, albeit in empty stadiums. Sport has been kept alive during the pandemic thanks to new and innovative solutions.
