Blake Lee had only been at the prison for a matter of hours, having recently been transferred from Whanganui Prison. He was put in yard 5 along with seven other inmates. Some walked around the concrete enclosed yard, others used the exercise equipment and played cards. According to the agreed summary of facts, Lee was set upon by a group of prisoners, including the man who admitted the murder charge on Wednesday. The attack was captured on CCTV and shows Lee walking with another prisoner Cesar Su’a. Another prisoner punched Lee in the head and he fell to the ground before the man who has admitted murder stomped on his head.
