Police arrest 2 in homicide of Chicopee man

The U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed that two people have been arrested in the December homicide of Chicopee resident Francisco Roman.
The names of the two people arrested and charges are sealed in court and expected to be released on Friday, said Tom Carson, spokesman for the Connecticut U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Roman, 28, was last seen on Christmas Eve in Chicopee Center, prompting police to put out an alert asking for information from anyone who had information about his disappearance. At the time he had a cast on his leg and was walking with crutches.

Two men are in custody and facing federal charges of kidnapping and murder in the Christmastime killing of Francisco Roman of Chicopee.
John H. Durham, the U.S. attorney for Connecticut, announced Friday that Brandon Batiste, 33, of Springfield, and Calvin Roberson, 38, of Waterbury, Connecticut, were each taken into custody in connection with Roman’s homicide.

SPRINGFIELD Speakers taking part in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at City Hall said Friday civil unrest nationwide, including last week’s deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol, shows much more work is needed to advance the work of the slain civil rights icon.
The gathering, which was kept small due to the coronavirus pandemic, included praise of King in his struggles for racial equality and civil rights, and strong criticism of President Donald Trump in his final days of office. Trump has been impeached on a charge of inciting the insurrection and faces a Senate trial.
