I join you today at the beginning of an exciting new era for the UK, and at a time where the ocean is central to supporting a healthy marine environment alongside a successful fishing industry.

New Zealand isn t among the 50 signatories to an international commitment to legally protect 30 per cent of the world s land and oceans for biodiversity by 2030, Marc Daalder reports. More than 50 countries agreed on Tuesday to protect 30 per cent of the world s land and ocean area for biodiversity purposes, but New Zealand wasn t among them. The High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People officially launched in Paris ahead of the One Planet summit, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron. Alongside France, the United Kingdom and Costa Rica currently chair the coalition, which is modelled on successful alliances for increasing global ambition to reduce emissions.
