GOJHL takes aim again at Junior A status

Sioux Lookout Unveils SIJHL Bombers And Logo

Youtube Screenshot The new Superior International Junior Hockey League team in Sioux Lookout will be known as the ‘Bombers.’ The ownership group has officially unveiled the name, logo and vision to the public. Matt Cairns is the Director of Marketing and Communications and says they selected the name Bombers to honour the hardworking Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry fire crews who spend every day to help keep us safe from wildfires. Cairns adds it also recognizes the important role the Ministry plays in the Sioux Lookout area and all of Northwestern Ontario. The team colours will be green and yellow in honour of the old Queen Elizabeth Warriors High School program and the footprint they left in building the sport in what has become a hockey crazed community.

SIJHL Expanding Into Sioux Lookout

Sioux Lookout is getting a Superior International Junior Hockey League franchise. The league’s Board of Governors unanimously approved the expansion application with the team scheduled to begin play in the 2022-23 season. “Our board really thought the group checked off all the boxes,” explained League Commissioner Darrin Nicholas. “Sioux Lookout has always been a community that we thought made sense for an SIJHL franchise. The town is within our geographical footprint. There is a great facility there and there’s clearly an abundance of community spirit that we feel will support a team.” Spokesperson for the Sioux Lookout group Matt Cairns says September 2022 cannot come soon enough.
