SAULT STE. MARIE Emilee McDaniel of Manistique has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2020 semester at Lake Superior State University.
To make the dean’s list, students must achieve a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
McDaniel is majoring in pre-veterinary studies at LSSU. She is the daughter of Cindy McDaniel and Troy McDaniel of Manistique.
At LSSU, she is active in volleyball, Pre-professional Society, and Fisheries and Wildlife Club.
Lake Superior State University is located in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. and overlooks the St. Marys River along the international border between the U.S. and Canada.
Seven of the 10 words and phrases on the banned list this year are pandemic related.
No surprise “COVID-19” tops the list. Many people who submitted nominations were tired of phrases like:
“We’re all in this together In an abundance of caution”
“In these uncertain times”
Among non-covid nominations, some say they are tired of the use of “Karen” as a catch-all critique for the racist behavior of some white women.
“Real-world concerns preoccupied word watchdogs this year, first and foremost COVID-19, and that makes sense. In a small way, maybe this list will help ‘flatten the curve,’ which also was under consideration for banishment,” LSSU President Rodney Hanley said.
