Ministry of National Security delivers new jet skis to Lifeguards Port of Spain:The nation’s Lifeguards got a much needed boost to their capacity to manage water safety at the nation’s beaches on Thursday April 29, 2021, when Minister of National Security, the Honourable Fitzgerald Hinds M.P. handed over three (3) brand new jet skis to the Lifeguard Services Division of the Ministry of National Security. Minister Hinds entrusted the three (3) Jet Skis into the care of representatives of the Lifeguard Services Division who were on hand to receive them. The handover ceremony took place at Greene’s General Cycle Ltd, located on H.E. Robinson Compound, #57 Old Southern Main Road, Curepe.

RNLI warn beachgoers of dangers of tombstoning

WITH spectacular weather expected to draw large numbers of beachgoers to Ceredigion this weekend, the RNLI have warned of the dangers of jumping from height off rocks. Last summer RNLI Lifeguards and the Cardigan lifeboat responded to an incident where a teenager injured while ‘tombstoning’ at Aberporth had to be airlifted to hospital. The Cardigan lifeboat crew also responded to an incident where an adult was injured jumping at nearby Mwnt. Cardigan-based Sam Trevor, the RNLI’s Lead Lifeguard Supervisor who covers 10 lifeguarded beaches along the coast from Newport Sands to Borth, said they were hoping such incidents would not be repeated.

RNLI seeks summer lifeguards to join team in Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow Recruitment for this season’s team of RNLI beach lifesavers has opened, ready for the summer. Beach lifeguards are at the forefront of the charity’s lifesaving work, proactively managing the safety of beaches, offering safety advice to visitors, and rescuing those in difficulty. This year, the RNLI is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their lifeguard service. Successful applicants will receive world-class lifesaving training, enjoy good rates of pay and develop valuable skills for a future career. Jake Anderson, 24, pictured above, is a Senior Lifeguard in Somerset, having started in 2017, and says: “The best parts of the job for me are getting to spend all summer outside, talking to the public, and getting to help people.”
