Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would inaugurate the village which aims to rejuvenate the state’s handicrafts sector. Spread across 8.5 acres near the famed tourist destination of Kovalam, the ethnic village renovated at a cost of C20 crore will have a slew of additional features including a museum, amphitheatre, emporium, children’s park, light and sound show, art gallery and a dining area. This was decided at a meeting of the Syndicate held on Wednesday. Daily wage labourers in posts such as computer programmer, driver, watchman, room boy, pump operator, electrician, and plumber will benefit from the decision. The university would seek the State government’s permission for the purpose. The Kerala gold smuggling case which has rocked the state politics, particularly the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), since July this year is now witnessing a new twist with the Assembly Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan being dragged into the controversy. The Speaker is alleged to be close to Swapna Suresh, one of the prime suspects in the gold smuggling case, but more importantly Sreeramakrishnan is now up against a slew of allegations made by the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
