City aims to vaccinate 450 000 senior citizens Page Content The City has opened eight (8) non-medical sites across Johannesburg to assist the Gauteng provincial government in speeding up the vaccination of senior citizens. Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Health and Social Development, Cllr Eunice Mgcina hopes such measures will reduce the surge in new Covid-19 infections and associated deaths. In the next two years, the municipality is targeting to vaccinate at least 67 percent of its 5.4 million population, adds Cllr Mgcina.   She emphasises that the second phase of the mass vaccination rollout programme gives precedence to people aged 60 and older, as they are more susceptible to the coronavirus, hospitalisation and death.
