KOROR, Palau (Island Times, June 7, 2012) – Members of the United States Congress have asked the Obama Administration to hasten anew the congressional approval of the Compact Review agreement between Palau and the United States.
It is almost two years since the Agreement was signed and the Compact is still pending before the U.S.
Congress said that the delay is causing some leaders of Palau to question the Agreement and the commitment of the U.S. to a friend that is vital to US security and international position.

Maloney (D-NY) this week wrote to President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda requesting the immediate release and safe return of Paul Rusesabagina, known for hiding and saving 1,268 refugees as a hotel manager during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. The Congresswoman urged the Rwandan President to return Mr. Rusesabagina, a United States Legal Permanent Resident and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, to the United States to be reunited with his family.
In her letter to President Kagame, Congresswoman Maloney notes that “[b]y utilizing clandestine methods to lure and arrest Mr. Rusesabagina, the Rwandan government purposefully ignored the legal avenues available via our deportation laws to request a deportation, violating United States law.”
