The announcement caused leading diamond and jewelry organizations to lash out as they believe the retailer misrepresented natural diamonds and caused harm to the industry. The Group acknowledges the new LGD collection as a positive expansion of the jewelry industry but called on Pandora to market LGDs responsibly. Additionally, the organizations want Pandora to issue a public statement retracting the false and misleading narrative which positioned laboratory-grown diamonds as an ethical choice versus natural diamonds .

The Danish jeweler announced last Tuesday that it would source only lab-grown stones a nd that it was launching its first range of jewelry featuring sustainably lab created diamonds . An alliance of industry bodies is now calling on Pandora to withdraw its false a nd misleading narrative which positions lab-growns as an ethical choice over natural diamonds. In a joint letter the organizations voice concerns for the tens of millions of people whose livelihoods depend on diamond mining.

Jewellery makers Chopard, Kering, LVMH, Richemont, Swarovski and Tiffany & Co. and coloured gemstone mining companies Gemfields and Muzo announced the launching of the Gemstones and Jewellery Community Platform. The free platform is aimed at all companies who are part of the gemstone and jewellery industry, from mining through to cutting and polishing, trading and retailing. It provides resources that can be used to learn more about 40+ sustainability topics relevant for the coloured gemstone sector, from responsible sourcing and due diligence to human rights and labour rights, and environmental protection.
