Singh re-elected Boxing Federation of India President

Singh re-elected Boxing Federation of India President Wednesday, 3 February 2021 Ajay Singh has been re-elected President of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) after holding off a challenge from Ashish Shelar. Singh won the vote 37-27 and will now embark on his second term at the helm of the BFI, having first been elected in 2016. He will do so with a new secretary general by his side after Hemanta Kumar Kalita was voted into the role. Kalita will succeed Jay Kowli, who decided not to stand again for the position after backing Shelar in the Presidential race. After his 10-vote victory, Singh promised to increase the representation of women in the BFI and support female boxers.

(Photo from the Philippine Sports Commission) World champion Nesthy Petecio and two fellow boxers were the first athletes to enter the training bubble for the Tokyo Olympics aspirants in three combat sports which formally started on Friday at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna. Petecio, the gold medal winner in the featherweight division of the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships held in Russia, arrived at the “Calambubble” along with Marjon Planar and Junmilardo Ogayre all the way from Davao City.

Boxing Federation of India confirms election date after COVID-enforced delay

Saturday, 9 January 2021 The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is set to hold its twice-postponed elections next month following a Delhi High Court ruling. BFI President Ajay Singh is being challenged by former Mumbai Cricket Association President Ashish Shelar in the election, scheduled for February 3. The vote had been due to take place in September before it was pushed back to December 18 and now to February. The delay in the election, caused by the coronavirus pandemic, prompted one of the BFI s members to seek intervention from the High Court to ensure it could be held. In a statement, the BFI said all parties had accepted the new date for the election.
