The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) has launched a campaign, Diamond Aid, to raise funds to help India in its battle with COVID-19.
Yesterday, the WFDB Executive Committee held an emergency session over Zoom, and decided unanimously to take the lead in mobilizing the international diamond and jewelry industry to donate.
The goal of the fundraising campaign, organized in coordination with the leadership of the Bharat Diamond Bourse, is to purchase essential medications and equipment that are desperately needed by hospitals in Surat and Mumbai.

Rapaport Research Report, which came out in January 2018, we highlighted the mistrust that existed between the diamond industry and its lenders. Diamantaires argued that the banks had an unjustified high-risk perception of the diamond trade, while the banks pressed the trade to be more efficient and raise its compliance standards.
Much has changed in the three years since then, and particularly in the past year amid the coronavirus. The relationship between the two sides appears to have vastly improved. And while historically, diamantaires have complained about a lack of available funds, there now appears to be an oversupply of credit.

After what the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) called a “tense election campaign,” which featured two rounds of voting, Boaz Moldawsky (pictured) was elected the bourse’s new president.
Moldawsky, 54, serves as joint CEO of the Moldawsky Group. He is a second-generation diamantaire whose family was among the founders of the Israeli diamond industry.
He has also served as vice president of the Israel Diamond Exchange and chairman of the Israel Diamond Institute.
He takes over from Yoram Dvash, who decided not to run for a third term to concentrate on his new role as head of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses.

Moldawsky, who has previously served as vice president of the IDE, won after two rounds of voting, the IDE said Sunday. The co-CEO of the Moldawsky Group, a diamond-manufacturing and trading company, has also been chairman of the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI). Although he was elected to a three-year term at the IDI in 2019, he resigned in November 2020 and was replaced by Dvash.
The IDE also elected 16 additional members to its board of directors, the bourse noted.
“The members of the diamond exchange have chosen an experienced and responsible management [team],” said Moldawsky. “It is an honor and privilege for me to lead the exchange in the coming years, and especially during such a complex and challenging period for the industry. The diamond exchange represents a key sector of the Israeli economy and I am convinced that we will bring it
