Red Bull ‘should have taken more points’ from Mercedes

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner felt his team should have taken “a lot more points” from Mercedes in Imola.
They narrowly missed out on victory in Bahrain, with seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton winning the season opener, but it was Max Verstappen who took victory at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
His team-mate Sergio Perez, who qualified second, did not have so much of a good day, suffering a 10 second penalty for overtaking during a safety car incident, but despite that, he still came out after the red flag in P4.

Max Verstappen took a long-term view of his Formula 1 battle with seven-times World Champion Lewis Hamilton and said finishing second to his Mercedes rival in last month’s season-opener was nothing to be upset about.
The 23-year-old Dutch driver struck observers with his calm after starting on pole at Sakhir but finishing second to Hamilton after having to give back a lead he gained by going off-track.
“I’ve always been super-calm,” he told media with a hint of sarcasm ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. “What do you want to do? It makes no sense to start smashing things or throwing things.”

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff is hopeful that seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton signs a contract extension with the team for 2022.
Mercedes and Hamilton only agreed terms to race this season in February 2021 after his previous contract with the Silver Arrows expired over the winter.
The Briton, who won the opening round of the season in Bahrain, has been with the German squad since 2013 and has won six titles with the team. However, Hamilton will be eyeing an eighth title win and a contract extension beyond this season hasn’t yet been finalised. The Mercedes boss however, is confident that terms can be reached to snatch the star driver for 2022 with a deal done by the summer.
Marko: Rules changed to slow us countless times

Helmut Marko has no sympathy for Mercedes’ cries that the rules have been changed to slow them down, saying Red Bull suffered the same fate during their reign.
Red Bull dominated Formula 1 from 2010 to 2013 with the team taking the Constructors’ Championship four years in a row while Sebastian Vettel won the Drivers’ titles.
Part of Red Bull’s success, at least in 2010 and 2011, was the exhaust-blown diffuser, prompting the FIA to change the rules regarding the location of the exhaust.
The teams, including Red Bull, found a way around this leading to an in-season ban to not only prevent off throttle blowing, but also rule out the floor mounted blown diffuser solutions.
