New research has shown that COVID-19 infections in healthcare workers during the first wave of the pandemic provided an accurate sample of the general population, suggesting that data from healthcare workers could be used to estimate the severity of future viruses more quickly.

The researchers analysed the infection data from healthcare workers and the progression of the first wave of the COVID-19 outbreak using the reported daily infection numbers in Ireland. Using similar data in four other countries (Germany, UK, South Korea and Iceland), computer models showed how the disease progressed in different countries related to their approach to testing, tracing and lockdown restrictions.

This year, 19,788 institutions were ranked, and those that placed at the top made the global 2,000 list.

Rankings place TTUHSC among top 7.4% worldwide

In its 2021-22 edition of the “Global 2000 List by the Center for World University Rankings” released April 26, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center ranked among the top 7.4% of 20,000 universities worldwide for 2020-21, according to a news release from Tech.
TTUHSC achieved an overall score of 67.9 for an overall world ranking of 1,406. The university was ranked 281 among U.S. universities and 317 regionally, which includes U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities.
In addition, TTUHSC was ranked as the 1,386th best university worldwide for research performance. The CWUR research performance rankings comprise 40% of a university’s overall ranking and are measured by: research output (total number of research articles – 10%); high-quality publications (total number of research articles published by top-tier journals – 10%); research influence (total number of research articles
