Public finance experts and business analysts have urged various state governors to focus more on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) than to be relying on the Federal Government monthly allocation to fund their states.
They also urged them to be transparent in their fiscal activities and accountable to people.
This was a summation at a monthly round table organised by the Centre for International Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS) in Lagos and tagged, “Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability of Nigerian States.”

Islamabad:Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam has said the effective monitoring of forests is imperative for containing deforestation and forestland degradation and taming global warming-caused climate change. There has been large-scale deforestation and land degradation in the country over last several years for want of effective forest monitoring system, which helps detect logging operations in forest areas and natural habitats of outstanding significance or critical importance, in a matter of minutes, he told the launching ceremony of the National Forest Monitoring System here on Monday.

This is the result of the country’s commitment and long-track record of achievement in health and education, as evidenced by the country’s universal network of schools and high primary and secondary school enrollment and almost universal coverage of maternal and child health services.
And Sri Lanka has been able to achieve these impressive results even though spending on health, education and social protection as a percentage GDP is a lot less than its regional peers and LMICS.
