Ex-NYPD sergeant from N.J. lied about working ‘hundreds of hours’ in 9/11 recovery, feds say

A former New York City police sergeant from New Jersey falsely claimed she worked for hours as part of recovery efforts from the 9/11 terrorist attacks and fraudulently tried to collect federal benefits, authorities said.
Sally Spinosa, of Freehold, surrendered Thursday to face charges, including submitting false claims, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
The 55-year-old former NYPD sergeant in 2010 claimed during a screening interview for the World Trade Center Health Program that she worked for “hundreds of hours” at the Fresh Kills Landfill in Staten Island from Sept. 2001 to June 2002, according to a complaint filed in the case.
