KUALA LUMPUR: Prospective vaccine recipients with the status of person under investigation (PUI), person under surveillance (PUS) or close contacts of Covid-19 patients are not allowed to turn up at vaccination centres (PPVs).
National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin, said that thus far they had found that several individuals with such status were present at PPVs, when they should have been at home under quarantine.
He said that the vaccination exercise for individuals with such status will be rescheduled, because they are at risk of infecting others.
“We check the MySejahtera system where we can check risk status in MySejahtera, and it is always updated. If you are classified as ‘close contact’ do not come (to PPV),” he said, when met in his visit to the PPV for AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), today.
KUALA LUMPUR: One million more doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccination will be opened for opt-in registration in May.
Khairy Jamaluddin, who is the coordinating minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, said an announcement would be made next week. We will receive a million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine within this month. We will open the opt-in registration for people in Klang Valley and other states. People need not worry and we will make the announcement next week, he said after an ad-hoc visit to the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) vaccination centre here on Saturday (May 15).
Khairy also pleaded with those without vaccination appointments not to come to any of the vaccination centres, as it would lead to congestion and compromise physical distancing.

MAY 10 Covid-19 vaccine hesitancy has emerged nationwide when about 8,000 people had cancelled their registration for vaccination on their MySejahtera app, mainly due to the misconception about Covid-19 vaccines they received from internet or any mass media without boundaries. It was as soon as the government announced that the AstraZeneca (AZ) Covid-19 vaccine (“AZ vaccine”) will be part of the country’s national immunisation programme.
This had led to the government announcing and launching the opt-in programme for the AZ vaccine in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor on 2 May 2021. However, public confidence towards the AZ vaccine could be observed when the available opt-in slots were fully booked by Malaysians within three hours of its opening on 2 May 2021. More vaccines are expected to arrive in Malaysia in the upcoming months to be administered to the population
PUTRAJAYA: Some 2,800 opt-in AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccination appointments scheduled for May 15 and 16 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) will be given new dates due to Covid-19 congestion concerns.
Khairy Jamaluddin, who is the coordinating minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, said the 2,800 appointments will be rescheduled to new dates between May 17 and May 23.
“At present, the WTCKL PPV will be operating at full capacity on May 15 and 16. There are 19,000 appointments set for the two dates, so we need to reduce the numbers to about 16,000 and reschedule some of them to new dates.
“This is due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases, which is worrying.

MAY 8 A Covid-19 disaster is looming in Malaysia as we watch the numbers rise. It is semantics to argue if we consider this a fourth wave or a resurgence of the third wave.
What we know as a reality is that our control measures are no longer effective, deaths are increasing, younger persons are dying (some with no chronic illnesses) and our intensive care units (ICUs) are getting choked.
Our fear is not just death but Long Covid-19; i.e. 10-30 per cent of all adults that get infected, even with a mild illness, may suffer long term damage to organs and be debilitated for many months.
