Andrew Young Foundation Seeks Funds for Oxygen in India

Photo: Andrew Young Foundation While it traditionally focuses on Africa, the Atlanta-based India with its COVID-19 surge.  The former Atlanta mayor and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations is among the Black leaders who hold India in high regard as the country of Mohandas Gandhi, whose nonviolent resistance to the British empire inspired the tactics of Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement.  Civil rights activist Rev. Jesse Jacksonreportedly met with a slew of Indian community organizations at Atlanta’s Global Mall in mid-May in a similar push for India aid. He also urged the Biden administration to send 60 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses to India.

CARE India Seeks Further Support as COVID Surge Moves Into Rural Areas

Global Atlanta Moderators and panelists at the World Affairs Council and Global Atlanta s joint event on th COVID-19 Crisis in India. CARE India has made a dent in combating the country’s current COVID-19 spike, opening oxygen-equipped makeshift hospitals to triage patients with less severe cases and reducing the load on main government facilities.  But even if positive trends hold, with case numbers in megacities like Mumbai and Delhi flattening off after case totals surpassed 400,000 nationwide, funding needs for the Atlanta-based nonprofit’s India arm could be even more significant in the coming weeks as its outreach ramps up in rural areas and as the pandemic spreads southward.
