Hendy Group and Vertu Motors’ Vansdirect business will both sponsor British Touring Car Championships (BTCC) drivers in the 2021 season as Cazoo backs the St Leger Stakes in its latest deal.
Hampshire-based Hendy Group will see its branding applied to the Team HARD Cupra Leon racing car of driver Árón Taylor-Smith as the BTCC gets underway at Thruxton Race Circuit, in Hampshire, over the weekend of May 8 and 9.
The AM100 car retail group said that the move had been timed to coincide with the recent opening of its new Cupra dealership in Brighton.
“It is great to welcome Hendy Group into the BTCC as it’s clear that motorsport and performance are at the core of the company,” said Taylor-Smith. “I have been looking forward to representing the Hendy name since initially speaking to the company and we have some brilliant plans for this year including the open day.”

NEIL ROBERTSON SAID he has carried forward his momentum from a successful Tour Championship after he beat Jack Lisowski to reach the quarter-finals of the Betfred World Championship.
The Australian, leading 9-7 overnight, produced breaks of 126, 87 and 70 as he wrapped up a 13-9 second round victory.
Robertson has only reached the semi-finals once since winning his only world title in 2010 – but he has looked in good form in Sheffield this year.

Reigning champion Ronnie O’Sullivan faces an uphill battle to stay in this year’s World Snooker Championship after being outplayed by Anthony McGill in the second session of their second round match at the Crucible.
Two centuries underpinned a superb performance from McGill, who won the first four frames of the day to move 8-4 in front and will take a 10-6 advantage into Friday evening’s conclusion of their best-of-25 clash.
MARK WILLIAMS set up a sensational second round match-up with John Higgins at this year’s World Snooker Championship after defeating Sam Craigie 10-4 on Wednesday evening.
The first round match was finely poised going into the evening session with Williams leading the Crucible debutant 5-4.
It looked like it might need all 19 frames to decide the winner, but the Welshman sped into a 9-4 lead by the mid-session interval before finishing the job with a break of 94 the highest of the match in the 14th frame.
“Tonight I played really well, to be honest,” Williams said after winning five frames in a row.
