The new investment that the company is making this year will focus on building components for smart vehicles, including software platforms for self-driving cars, CGTN reported on Tuesday, citing Huawei s Rotating Chairman Eric Xu.

President of Huawei’s Institute of Strategic Research, William Xu noted nine technological challenges and proposed directions for research efforts including developing 5G to support hundreds of billions of different kinds of connections, developing nanoscale optics to increase fibre capacity and achieve speeds of 100Gb.
