11 December 2020 - On the eve of Universal Health Coverage Day, more than 1,600 viewers from 100+ countries who registered, tuned into a three-hour live broadcast co-hosted by PMNCH, CORE Group and UHC2030. The summit focused on the consequences of COVID-19 for universal health coverage (UHC) and progress for women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health. This summit, built on the very successful Lives in the Balance: A COVID-19 Summit, in July 2020, where partners came together to call on global leaders to commit to PMNCH’s seven-point action plan for improving and increasing investment in health systems and social protection policies for women, children and adolescents as the world rebuilds in the wake of the pandemic.

A South Korean-led group of UN member countries held a videoconference with an international disease monitoring board to discuss policy directions for effective coronavirus responses, the foreign ministry said Wednesday.
The UN Group of Friends of Solidarity for Global Health Security was launched in May under Seoul s initiative with a view to bring up a UN-level response to the coronavirus pandemic and other global health problems. It has 44 countries and the European Union as members.

The Elders this week launched a new report, “Building Back Better for Universal Health”, setting out three key pillars to inform the leadership needed from governments and policymakers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic at a national and global level:
Prepare public health systems for future pandemics
Prioritise Universal Health Coverage at a national and global level
Promote healthier societies via holistic polices and social development
Launched ahead of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day on 12 December, the wide-ranging report sets out specific recommendations based on lessons learned thus far from the pandemic, and the wider progress made towards UHC as part of countries’ commitments under the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
