Author: Natalie Marchant, Writer, Formative Content Global stock of electric vehicles (EVs) could reach 245 million units by 2030, according to the International Energy Agency. While EVs emit less CO2, their batteries are tough to recycle. Made from cobalt, lithium and nickel, the mining of these raw materials raises ethical and environmental concerns. Creating a circular supply chain by recycling the batteries’ raw materials will be vital in reducing their environmental impact. Electric vehicles (EVs) may reduce emissions, but the lithium-ion batteries on which they run pose a unique sustainability challenge.
