Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has appealed to the party cadre to meet every voter to tell them about the development Tamil Nadu had witnessed under AIADMK’s rule and its welfare schemes which alone would smash DMK president M.K. Stalin’s venomous campaign against the ruling party.
Addressing a public meeting at Chidambara Nagar on Wednesday evening, Mr. Palaniswami said Mr. Stalin was receiving petitions from the public. He should explain the action he took on the petitions he had received from the public during the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. He resumed the drama of receiving petitions from the public again since the Assembly election was fast approaching, Mr. Palaniswami said.

Budget non-committal on allocation of funds for land acquisition
Hopes of the Amballoor electronic hardware park getting a boost in the budget received a jolt, as there was no specific allocation for speeding up the much-delayed project.
Except for a mention that the construction of the park would be intensified, there were no details on sanctioning funds for land acquisition. “The project had hit a roadblock after the land acquisition process got delayed indefinitely. The authorities could acquire land belonging to a few persons only,” said Manoj Kumar P.K., former vice president, Amballoor grama panchayat.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, lockdown and other uncertainties, Tamil Nadu has swung mega ticket deals in various sectors through 2020 to live up to its image as a favourite investment destination. Even as the state heads into an election year, it has managed to bag huge investments with the government stepping up efforts to attract investments by forming committees under chief secretary K. Shanmugham and former RBI governor C. Rangarajan.
The Tamil Nadu Government has said that the conversion rate of MoUs with investors into actual projects during the last 10 years has been about 82.4 per cent. The conversion rate of 98 MoUs signed during Global Investors Meet (GIM) 2015 was 72 per cent, while that of 304 MoUs signed during GIM 2019 was 89 per cent. The conversion rate refers to projects that have commenced commercial production or are at various stages of implementation (such as purchase of land, application for clearances or trial production) as a percentage of the total number of MoU projects, said the State Industries Department. It refuted reports that only 9.4 per cent of the investment proposals in the state were actually converted to projects in the past 10 years.

The Tribune Interview: Jai Ram Thakur, Chief Minister Himachal Pradesh
Being a state where tourism is the mainstay for a sizeable population, the impact of the Covid pandemic on Himachal’s economy has been immense. With the total loss suffered by the state pegged at Rs 30,000 crore, the existing financial crunch could impact the state’s growth in the coming year, including several initiatives planned by the Jai Ram Thakur-led BJP regime as it completes three years in office on December 27.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, in an interview with Special Correspondent Pratibha Chauhan, outlined his government’s roadmap for ensuring that the wheels of development are kept moving, notwithstanding constraints like the paucity of resources, spiralling unemployment and reluctance on the part of investors to push through the already-approved projects.
