A Sneads Ferry man and former subcontractor for the U.S. Marine Corps, who pled guilty in a federal bribery and fraud case was sentenced to prison after he came clean about destroying records during the investigation.
William J. Thompson, 56, pled guilty in May 2020 to one county of destruction of records in a federal investigation before U.S. District Chief Judge Terrence W. Boyle of the Eastern District of North Carolina. On Feb. 17, Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicholas L. McQuaid of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division announced Thompson was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Thompson was a subcontractor at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and owned C&D Painting and Construction in Sneads Ferry at the time of the investigation.
