Warning of surface water on Offaly roads after unseasonal May downpours

Road safety experts have warned of surface water on many routes in Offaly following persistent rain over the past 24 hours.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland said: We advise all motorists to slow down and take extra care on your journeys to avoid delays, check for any travel disruptions via http://traffic.tii.ie.
The weather will be cool and overcast today with outbreaks of rain, especially across Leinster.
It will brighten up in the afternoon with drier conditions extending southwards.
Met Eireann said Saturday will start dry and sunny but will be followed by scattered showers.

An increased Garda presence in communities are amongst several measures being called for by a Fine Gael TD.
Dublin Rathdown Deputy Neale Richmond has made the urgent call to tackle worrying anti-social behaviour across Dublin.
Deputy Richmond said: “We have all seen the videos and heard worrying stories of violence on public transport, in our streets and parks across Dublin. The recent incidents of anti-social behaviour throughout Dublin are hugely concerning.
“Gardai, public transport operators and central Government must come together to ensure this recent uptick in anti-social behaviour does not become a trend.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland has now officially confirmed further consultation will take place in September.
Issues were raised by the Oireachtas Transport Committee on the lack of modelling demonstrated for the proposed routes in regard to safety, cost and travel times during original public consultation.
Limerick TD Kieran O Donnell said, “I welcome the direct confirmation I have received from TII and its CEO, Mr. Peter Walsh that TII/M20 Design office are to hold a second phase of public consultation on the M20 Limerick-Cork Motorway project in September. This commitment comes on foot of my request last January and my follow-up questioning of Mr. Walsh at the Oireachtas Transport Committee on Tuesday 2nd February
