Groundwork begins for new £46m high school

PREPARATORY groundworks have begun for a £46 million new high school at Wallyford, as major new housebuilding in the area continues. The new Wallyford Secondary Learning Campus will be built on farmland west of Masons Way and is expected to take about two years to build. A spokeswoman for East Lothian Council said that the preparatory groundworks would include the erection of fencing around the perimeter, and excavation and removal of topsoil. Ecological surveys of the site have already been carried out. Preparatory work has started on the site of the new high school at Wallyford She said: “The preparatory works will be delivered by East Lothian Council’s development partner Hub South East and Morrison Construction. Morrison Construction has written to residents in neighbouring properties to advise them of the activity. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption during the preparatory works, which are due to complete by early summer.

Public Works Minister Patricia de Lille and her deputy visited Saldanha Bay Harbour, where they engaged with contractors and local workers who have been working on a multimillion-rand upgrade project. Around R96 million has been allocated for infrastructure upgrade work at the Saldanha Bay and Pepper Bay harbours. Work is currently being executed in several fishing harbours, including Kalk Bay, Gordon s Bay, Hermanus, Gansbaai, Arniston, St Helena Bay, Hout Bay and Lamberts Bay. Bridges link Ekhamanzi community to schools, clinics

Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) Minister Patricia de Lille and KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Kwazi Mshengu are set to unveil three bridges in Ekhamanzi, in the uMshwathi Local Municipality. The recently completed bridges will significantly improve the community’s access to social amenities, including schools and clinics. The unveiling is scheduled for Thursday, 11 March 2021. The Welisizwe Rural Bridges Programme was gazetted as a Strategic Integrated Project in July 2020 as part of government’s Infrastructure Investment Plan, approved by Cabinet in May 2020. The programme is aimed at providing safe access to social amenities and respond to potential disaster areas and emergency disaster situations.
