Earlier this week, industry association COAI had approached Health Ministry requesting for vaccination of frontline telecom workers on duty manning networks around the clock, as there is fear in the minds of these professionals . On Wednesday, Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA), in a statement said it has written to Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash urging for the inclusion of telecom field personnel under the frontline workers category for priority in COVID-19 jab.

The Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash has recently written to the Ministry of Health requesting vaccination for telecom field workers. The request follows the March 15 letter sent by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) to the DoT Secretary seeking the same.

“Department of Telecommunications (DoT) endorses the request of COAI. There is no doubt that the telecom field-force continues to work relentlessly to ensure uninterrupted data and voice services across the country and that in this endeavour the risk exposure for Covid-19 is high,” Prakash wrote to the Health Ministry.

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), whose members include Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, said it has come across multiple messages on social media platforms as well as reports in a few regional media mentioning 5G spectrum trials as the probable cause for rising COVID-19 cases.
In a joint statement on Friday, the COAI and the Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) expressed their concern regarding false rumours connecting 5G technology with the spread of COVID-19.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has conducted a fact check and busted fake news claiming that the radiation being released by 5G testing has led to the outbreak of the second wave of COVID-19 in India. In an audio message, it is being claimed that 5G network is being tested in the states, due to which people are dying. This claim is fake. Please do not spread confusion by sharing such fake messages, PIB said in a tweet.
