Country To Couture is taking designer applications now By Imogen Bailey | 19 April 2021 The Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation s (DAAFF) Indigenous Fashion Projects (IFP) has opened expressions of interest for the 2021 Country to Couture fashion showcase.  The sixth instalment of the Country to Couture event is set to return to Darwin on Larrakia country on August 04, showcasing Indigenous art, textiles and fashion.  A celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander textiles and fashion design, Country to Couture is a contemporary way of cultural storytelling, and sharing knowledge, DAAFF said in a statement. The high energy runway presents innovative collections from Indigenous designers and artists across Australia, as well as unique collaborations between Indigenous communities and well-known Australian labels.

Established in 2020 in partnership with The Indigenous Fashion Projects, the 12-month Pathways Program is part of the retailer s commitment to supporting diverse design perspectives and ensuring that the future of the Australian fashion industry is inclusive and more representative of Indigenous design and culture.  The six labels included in the mentorship program are Kirrikin, Ngali (pictured), Liandra Swim, Native Swimwear, Maara Collective and Indii.  Spearheading the project is David Jones GM of womenswear, footwear and accessories, Bridget Veals, who said that the program s ultimate goal is to support and develop Indigenous labels by listening to what they really need.
