Cargo-vessel responsible for Shitalakkhya launch capsize seized

NARAYANGANJ, Apr 8, 2021 (BSS) – Cargo ship SKL-3, which pushed the ‘MV Sabit Al Hasan’ launch causing it’s capsize in the Shitalakkhya River on Sunday was seized today from Gazaria in Munshiganj by the Pagla Station Coast Guards’ here.
Also, 14 people were detained during the seizure of the vessel.
Narayanganj Naval Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam confirmed the incident saying that, “The ship has been handed over to the naval police. We are bringing it to Narayanganj.”
He said legal action will be taken after checking whether the detainees are the crews or members of the ship.

Death toll rises to 34 in Bangladesh boat accident 2 minutes read
Dhaka, Apr 6 (efe-epa).- At least five bodies were recovered Tuesday from the site of a recent boat accident near the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka, taking the death toll in the incident to 34, according to the authorities.
The incident occurred around 6 pm on Sunday when an overcrowded passenger boat capsized in the Shitalakkhya river in Narayanganj district.
“We have so far recovered 34 bodies, five of them in floating condition today,” Narayanganj administration chief Mustain Billah told EFE.
Billah added that the bodies were handed over to their families, and that two others remain missing.

DHAKA, April 5 (Xinhua) A pall of gloom has descended over villages near Bangladesh capital Dhaka after divers dragged 21 more bodies from inside a sunken ferry Monday afternoon. With the recovery of the bodies, the death toll of Sunday s ferry sinking accident rose to 26.
Ershad Hossain, senior duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, told Xinhua that the bodies were recovered from the river of Shitalakkhya in Narayanganj district, about 20 km from the Bangladesh capital Dhaka.
The jam-packed ferry, carrying some 50 passengers, sank on Sunday night. Another 21 missing bodies were recovered on Monday afternoon which takes the number of total death toll to 26 from five on Sunday night, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq told journalists.
