GUWAHATI: PM Narendra Modi via video conferencing from New Delhi kicked off multiple road, water and digital connectivity projects worth Rs 9,500 crore in Assam, which includes foundation stone laying for a 19-km long bridge over Brahmaputra river, which will be India’s longest bridge, and bhoomi pujan for construction of a bridge connecting world’s largest inhabited river island Majuli with mainland Assam.
Modi in his speech said, “This will open new doors for tourism in Assam. Assam can be big destination for cruise tourism in country. We have to work together to make Assam the center of ‘Atmanirbharbharat.”
The four lane 19-km long bridge over the Brahmaputra between Dhubri (on North Bank) and Phulbari (in Meghalaya on South Bank) on NH-127B will be the eight bridge over the mighty river will be built with a total cost of Rs 4997 crore.

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday launched the `Mahabahu-Brahmaputra` and laid the foundation stone of Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge in a virtual event. He also performed bhumi pujan for the construction of the Jorhat-Majuli Bridge at 12 noon.
The Mahabahu Brahmaputra project will cost Rs 3,231 crore.
Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to announce the launch of the Mahabahu Brahmaputra project. He wrote, Grateful Hon PM Sri @narendramodi for launch of Mahabahu Brahmaputra ~ A towering step towards enabling seamless connectivity in #NorthEast. It ll help promote river cruise tourism, generate employment and enable growth in local business.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (18 February) launched âMahabahu-Brahmaputraâ initiative and laid the foundation stone of two bridges in Assam.
To mark the launch of the Mahabhau-Brahmaputra initiative, which aims to increase connectivity in the eastern states, PM Modi inaugurated the Ro-Pax vessel operations between Neamati-Majuli Island, North Guwahati-South Guwahati and Dhubri-Hatsingimari.
He also laid the foundation stone of Inland Water Transport (IWT) Terminal at Jogighopa and various tourist jetties on river Brahmaputra and launched digital solutions for Ease-of-Doing-Business.
According to a PIB release, the Mahabhau-Brahmputra programme is aimed at providing seamless connectivity to the eastern parts of India and includes various development activities for the people living around River Brahmaputra and River Barak.
