The Dodge Momentum Index, a measure of the first report for nonresidential building projects in planning, hit its highest level since the summer of 2018, climbing 1.7% higher in March to 151.4 (2000=100) vs. the revised February reading of 148.8. Year-over-year, the Index was up 11% in March 2021 compared to March 2020, when the construction industry was just beginning to feel the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dodge Data & Analytics, which issues the monthly Index, attributes March’s rise to an increase in institutional projects that entered the planning stage, after a similar gain for the sector in February. While healthcare and lab projects continue to lead institutional planning, March saw a more broad-based selection of project types, including education and recreation buildings. NUEVO, CA One person was killed and five others were injured this afternoon in a five-vehicle collision in Nuevo.
The multi-vehicle wreck occurred about 4:10 p.m. on the Ramona Expressway, near Lakeview Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. A tractor-trailer and a mix of other vehicles collided on the two-lane corridor, though the circumstances were unclear.
The big rig went down an embankment but did not overturn, according to the CHP.

An occupant of one car was ejected onto the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene by Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department paramedics, according to reports from the scene.

LAKELAND VILLAGE, CA Two people were killed and at least two others injured in a blaze that erupted Monday in a Lakeland Village home.
The deadly fire was reported about 2:45 p.m. in the 32900 block of Blackwell Boulevard, near Brightman Avenue, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
Crews sent to the location encountered flames in multiple rooms of the single-story residence, with heavy smoke in the attached garage, according to reports from the scene.
