The Child and Family Center’s Domestic Violence Program is set to host its fourth annual “Night of Expression” art exhibit on Saturday, Feb. 27, in recognition of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.
The event will showcase artwork and poetry from local students as they stand in solidarity with their peers against dating violence and advocate for healthy relationships.
Residents are encouraged to tune in for an evening of awareness, art, poetry, empowerment and more. The exhibit will stream live at 7:00 p.m. on the Child and Family Center’s YouTube page.
This event is open to the whole community and for all ages.

New Orleans Health Department Partners with NOPD to Officially Add Question of Firearm Possession to Domestic Violence Police Reports
NEW ORLEANS The New Orleans Health Department’s Domestic Violence Program today announced its partnership with the New Orleans Police Department to add a fifth risk question on the Department’s electronic police report that directs patrol officers and asks all victims about the presence and possession of firearms at every domestic violence incident.

Training is available for individuals interested in educating themselves on the issues surrounding domestic violence. The training will take place April 26 through May 12, Monday through Thursday, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Dove, 302 S. Union, Decatur. This 44-hour training is approved by ICADV, Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence. This training is facilitated by Dove staff members who both are Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals.
To register, contact Barbara Blakey at 217-428-6616 after Feb. 22. A phone interview is the first step in the process and needs to take place by Noon, Monday, April 12. There is a fee for the training. Training fee and all needed paperwork is due by end of day, April 12. Since we likely will still be abiding by COVID 19 Guidelines, please understand we may have to limit the number of participants in order for all to social distance for this training.

Are you looking to give back this holiday season? Help ProMD Health reach its goal to support the Dance Therapy Program at Center for Hope (CFH).
The program will be offered to children and adults from the Domestic Violence Program (DOVE) and Baltimore Child Abuse Center (BCAC) programs. Dance classes will be facilitated by a licensed dance therapist and will be used in conjunction with talk therapy. Many of the clients served by Center for Hope do not have access to dance classes, and CFH will be providing these classes free of charge.
According to the American Dance Therapy Association, mind, body and spirit are interconnected. Moving is good for the mind and body and can help improve resiliency. DOVE and BCAC would like to offer clients opportunities for therapeutic dance as part of the healing process, in addition to the traditional counseling services they offer to adults and their children.
