Indigenous Affairs Minister Ken Wyatt has renewed hopes for an Indigenous voice to be included in the Constitution through a referendum in the next term of parliament.
He told Sky News host Chris Kenny last night there was a real interest in the commitment.
“Feedback from the community is strong, certainly a national voice has been highlighted as being an important part of this process,” he said.
“Australia’s changing substantially and people are engaging more and more in conversations about the oldest living culture, but they’re much more receptive than I’ve ever seen in my lifetime.”

Hundreds of Indigenous Australians who were forcibly removed from their
families as children are suing the government in a class action launched on Wednesday seeks compensation for the injustice.

Thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youths were taken from
their homes and put in foster care with white families, under official
assimilation policies that persisted into the 1970s.
Now known as the Stolen Generations , they were routinely
punished for speaking their own languages or practising their culture, and many
never saw their parents or siblings again.
